Visiting a Griya

A Priest has a pivotal role in a Balinese community. And today we will take you to visit a priest’s home to experience the Balinese way of life. Your day tour starts with a pick up from your accommodation, anywhere in Bali. You will be taken through a scenic route heading to Tulikup Village located in Gianyar Regency of Bali.

Upon arrival in Tulikup, you will be dropped off at the most famous temple in the village, Pura Sakti. It is a majestic ancient temple, built hundreds of years ago. A few metres from the temple, you will reach a red brick entrance leading to Griya Dauh Tulikup, the home of the priest in service. A Balinese priest always lives near the temple he serves.

At the Griya, an usher will warmly welcome you and provide you with a choice of fruit juice, tea, or coffee, to help you refresh and ready before you are ushered to your choice of activities for the day. Learn how to play gamelan, a Balinese traditional musical instrument.

Come and inspect a typical Balinese house, or eco buildings found in the vicinity. Have a go at making a Balinese offering. Walk around the Griya’s lush garden and learn about healing herbs and spices. Visit a traditional market nearby, and test your haggling skills!

Whichever activities you choose, feel free to immerse yourself in the daily life experiences that Bali has to offer. Some questions will surely pop out as you see just how different a Balinese life is. Note down your questions because we know you will have plenty to discuss at the wrap-up session with the priest himself. The owner of the house and a reverred leader within the community, the priest is surely apt to give you your answers.

After lunch we sit down comfortably for the Celebrations of Life Discussion, placed at the end to answer all your open ended questions about Bali and share your own individual life experiences. After all, today is about building bridges, connecting cultures and of course celebrating life.
